About the project

The Refinery, situated in Western Europe, concluded its operations in 2021. With a Nelson Complexity Index of 9.1 in 2019, it featured three distinct processing factories: Fuels, Base Oils, and Aromatics, complemented by a Co-Generation Plant generating 2x 40MW of power. The "Fuels" processing unit included essential components such as two Crude Oil Distillation units (26,000 and 71,000 barrels per day), Vacuum Distillation units (12,000 and 35,500 barrels per day), and various specialized units like Visbreaker, Platforming, Unifining, Gasoil HDS, Amine Gas Treatment, Gas Recovery, and more. These units collectively facilitated the transformation of crude oil into a range of valuable fuel products and derivatives. The "Base Oils" unit focused on refining processes to produce different types of base oils, including Propane De-Asphalting, Furfural Extraction, MEK Dewaxing, Lube Hydrofinishing, and Wax Hydrogenetion, alongside Asphalt production. In the "Aromatics" processing unit, the refinery engaged in the production of aromatic compounds through Pre-Distillation, Arosolvan, Parex, Isomar, and Solvents processes, yielding various essential products like benzene, toluene, xylene, and other aromatic and aliphatic compounds. Additionally, the refinery featured two Co-Generation Plants with a combined capacity of 40 MWe, incorporating Heat Recovery Steam Turbines (STG) to maximize energy efficiency. The inclusion of decommissioned units in certain processes, such as Kerosene Sweetening, Parex, and Sulphur Recovery, reflects the dynamic nature of the refinery's operational history. The comprehensive range of processing units highlights the refinery's capability to handle a diverse array of crude oil inputs and produce a wide spectrum of refined products.
